True Story:

This afternoon during the throes of a horrible headache I took over control of the remote and watched VH1 Pop Up Video. Anyone over the age of well, my age will remember this nifty little show when video channels actually played videos. For those not in the know (shameful!) they took video’s and placed ‘pop up’s’ (hence the name) to give you all sorts of random useless information that you never needed to know. Sorta like this blog, only video form.

Anway! I’m watching Paul Simon with Chevy Chase with the song “Call me Al…” which by the way, is one of my all time favorite songs. Bone Digger…Bone Digger! PDQ is in the dining room (read: five steps away from me) finally practicing her guitar strumming along her notes like the good little child she is. A little pop up appears on the screen while Paul is playing the Alto Sax with a note that states: Alto means Tall.

I started laughing. Not that “ooh isn’t that cute giggle” I do on occasion or the “Hey, I’m a bit nervous here” chuckle but the all out “ooh…ho ho hahahaha, that’s just funny right there” laugh. Naturally PDQ thinks I’m laughing at her. She’s 12, the world revolves around her donchaknow? I had to then explain why I was laughing so hard.

ME: Alto means tall.

PDQ: blank stare

ME: Laugh some more..get it? Alto means tall!

PDQ: gets up and comes to look at the TV and states “I don’t get it” as they pan out from a very short Paul Simon playing the Alto Sax and a very tall Chevy Chase playing some other instrument.

PDQ: stares at me “funny mom”

ME: continues laughing “You play the alto sax”

PDQ: goes back to practicing the guitar

ME: You still don’t get it?!

PDQ: Not really

ME: Stops laughing with palm to the face and mutters “your SHORT! Alto means TALL!”

PDQ: Peeks over her guitar stand “GOTCHA”

Now who’s the blonde?

*sighs*
