Adult Content, PG land and Skins that look like Clowns. It’s JIRA TIME!

Most of us by now know about the adult regions, verification and all the lovely stuff that will be going into it. If you just happen to be one of the thousands who have no clue please see the latest post by Linden Labs(tm) on the situation. As it sits, people will be able to filter out adult content, however the reverse is not being implemented. There is currently no way for people to filter out PG content. This is important for many reasons and should be implemented by LL(tm) upon rolling out the 1.23 RC candidate. For me, the two most important reasons to implement this are the following:

1. If your adult verified you have access to the entire grid, including PG sims. If, for any reason, you land in a PG/Mature area that is viewable via search with items that are deemed adult region only acceptable, you could be AR’d. If you crash out of a adult sim naked and relog back into a welcome center in a PG/mature sim, again naked, it is the duty of those who volunteer to AR and ban you. Some may give warnings and ask you to get dressed or leave. Others may not, it’s all dependent on where you land. Since the parcel owner may ALSO be AR’d for allowing ‘adult approved’ avatars on their land, they may not issue a warning before banning and AR’ing so as to cover their own interests. They have absolutely no way of knowing if you crashed, teleporting there to grief or any other reason you might possibly be landing there. One might say you could change your log in to “home only” but if your home is down and you were just traipsing around a Gorean community in sheer silks, again….you could be AR’d. As to whether or not the AR goes through is strictly at the hands of LL Gov Team and they would be well within their rights to issue a warning, which goes on your record. It would be up to you to prove that it was an accidental landing and every tom, dick and harry will be using that excuse no matter how they ended up there.

2. LL claims the reason they initiating blocking of adult content by choice is to allow users the ability to control what they see and experience. As the 1.23 sits, this is false. Only those who do not wish to view adult content or are not verified to do so have that ability. If they are interested in allowing their user base to view only what they wish, that option should be given to everyone.

So I am asking you, please vote for the Jira that will allow everyone the ability to control their experience and not just a select group of people.

Now on to skins. I’m really not sure I understand completely how this release candidate will work. What I do know is that it will render many of our skins no longer usable. I know that skin makers are extremely upset because it puts them in a position of either remaking their skins or trashing their skins. There has been millions of dollars spent on skins from the fashionista’s of our grid and millions of hours of hard work to produce those skins by our creators. Please view the pictures and vote on this Skin Jira as well. Otherwise, we will all look at clowns or have to spend millions more on buying skins to replace what is no longer usable. I don’t know about you, but I just don’t have that kind of real life money available as I acquired my collection over a two year period!

  2. For #1 “If you crash out of a adult sim naked and relog back into a welcome center in a PG/mature sim” : LL has already stated they’re implementing a server change to prevent this. You should always be auto-bounced to a sim that’s at the same rating level as where you were when you left. Assuming they get it to work right, it’s covered.

For #2: the Lindens commenting on that JIRA say they understand the problem and will rework things to avoid it before release. So it looks like that will be addressed too, fortunately. LL can save themselves a lot of hysteria if they roll back the change in baking order before 1.23 goes to Release Candidate status, and tinker with it afterwards if they must.

It may be that there are very good reasons to change the bake order (e.g. maybe to move toward additional layers — people have been begging for that). But you are right that existing skins are *way* too big a bridge to burn!

  3. yes, they said in the Jira for the PG content block that you SHOULD go to the sim rating that you crashed from or are allowed to view via your own verification. And if glitches occur they will address it. However, after how many AR’s of people “accidently” landing in a PG sim will they start to ignore that it was an accident and stop researching to verify that is what actually occured? It will be on the person being AR’d to counteract the AR and try to justify that they were not in the wrong. If it is done on what your allowed to view, there is a high chance you could end up in a PG sim since verified has access to all sims. If they keep it for sim rating upon crashing then everything SHOULD be ok. I don’t know if I want to accept “should” as being ok because we all know what “should” leads to…screw up’s.

I hope they do something wrt this skin issue…what a mess that will be!

  4. that whole thing has a huge mess potential!
